HHM X Stories Of Hope | 监狱里的忠仁只想复仇

若有机会重来,你想改变什么?

An ex-convict’s second chance at life.

After his parents’ divorce, young Tobin Toh was sent to live with his uncle and was expected to work for the family’s ‘kueh’ business. He recalls, “My uncle would beat me with a wooden board till it broke if I did homework instead of work.” Tobin was later expelled from military school for fighting. At 14 years old, he joined a gang and fell into a life of violence. In his 20s, Tobin got married – but became addicted to gambling. Racking up a $400k debt, he started selling pirated CDs to pay it off. He was eventually caught by the police and sentenced to 3½ years in prison.

While imprisoned, Tobin’s then-wife asked for a divorce. Locked in isolation, he burned with a desire for revenge. But suddenly, a miracle unfolded before his eyes. He saw a light in his cell – The more he looked at the light, the whiter it became and the calmer he felt. Tobin wept as he also saw supernatural visions of his life flash by like a film.

“I saw all the bad things I’d done – to my wife and my friends.” Then Tobin felt a voice ask him to “follow Me”. Later, a prisoner gave Tobin a Bible, which started his journey of learning about God.

After his release, Tobin initially struggled with his old lifestyle habits. But his desire to follow God grew as he embraced his second chance at life. For years, Tobin took part-time classes, eventually earning a Degree in Theology. Now, he runs a charity shelter for ex-convicts and the homeless, also helping them find jobs.

Tobin thanks God for changing his life and teaching him how to have a heart for others.
