Leslie Ng was a loving husband to Margaret Ong. For 23 years, Margaret never saw any hint of her husband’s mental illness. However, in mid-2008, Leslie started becoming severely paranoid. He taped black paper on windows and imagined people spying on him. He was then diagnosed with schizophrenia. Margaret fell out of love as Leslie’s illness changed him from the man she once knew. Leslie also started to imagine that he was no longer married to Margaret. Feeling helpless, Margaret chose to turn to God. As Margaret learned about God’s love, she felt her compassion for Leslie grow. She says, “The love of Christ helped me fall in love with my husband again.” Today, Margaret is at peace with Leslie’s condition and is grateful for the beautiful memories she created with Leslie before his illness. “Darling, I don’t regret marrying you.
