HHM X Stories Of Hope | 他们不会接受自闭症患者

一位自闭儿的非凡梦想

Since young, Caleb Heng has always wanted to be a police officer. However, at the age of 11, he was officially diagnosed with high-functioning autism. Because of his symptoms, he was often badly bullied and treated as an outcast in school.

However, Caleb finally found acceptance when his parents transferred him into Pathlight school. He had to learn how to make friends from all walks of life, including neurotypical friends. During difficult times, Caleb found that worshipping God through music helps him manage his emotions. At times when his symptoms seem out of control, he would turn to God in prayer and feel a supernatural peace.

Since Caleb is able to manage his symptoms consistently, he was officially enlisted in April 2023 as a non-combat National Serviceman. Despite his enlistment, Caleb’s friends did not believe that he would make it to combat fit. “They won’t take in an autistic person like you,” is a phrase that he constantly hears.

However, in September 2023, Caleb received a text that he able to transfer to combat fit. This means that he is one step closer to achieving his dream of being a police officer. He gives all glory to God for helping him every step of the way.

“I am trusting God to work things out. I used to turn to friends for affirmations but now I only turn to Him.”
